Big Data isn’t going away. In fact, existing data will grow 50 times the current volume by 2020, according to industry estimates. That means businesses will remain heavily dependent on data centers, according to a recent survey from the Uptime Institute. With capacity limited, more organizations are looking to either build new data centers or upgrade existing ones. “We continue to see an increase in data center budgets, which is a pleasant surprise, as many budgets in the IT sector are on the decline,” says Matt Stansberry, director of content and publications for the institute. Another key finding: Nearly all survey participants express serious considerations about the huge amount of energy these structures consume, and many are interested in pursuing “green” certifications as a result. More than 2,000 executives worldwide took part in the research.
