What business events trigger significant change in the data center?
What are the events that trigger significant change in the data center?
I talk to organizations every day who are planning changes to their enterprise data center facilities. Here are a few of the common business events that cause change in your corporate data center, along with some questions about the events that may be on your mind.
Your organization is moving to a new location.
Do you want to build a new data center or use outsource data center space?
Your organization is adding a new line of business.
What are your additional IT equipment footprint, power consumption, cooling, and FTE resources required? Does the new line of business require uptime levels that the current enterprise data center cannot deliver?
You’re making the switch to virtualization.
A fully virtualized environment often needs more power than its predecessor physical environment. Even though the number of equipment racks in your data center may go down, can your existing facility support the incremental power and cooling increase?
I’ll post more of these triggering events and questions in the coming weeks.
